Stanford Baptist Church originated in 1780, when God led Reverand Lewis Craig to start a traveling church, and God led them straight to Kentucky. On their way to Lancaster, KY, they stopped at Gilberts Creek, where they established their home base, and from that home base, the ministry reached Stanford, KY.
With God working through this ministry, on November 20, 1852, a group of Baptists in and around Stanford met in a Church on Depot Street to organize Stanford Baptist Church. In December of 1856, the Church voted to erect a Church house, which the Church completed on August 13, 1859. On February 8, 1862, Due to the great world Cholera (Kaa-lr-a) Pandemic, our Church opened our Church to those churches that had been taken for military hospitals. In March 1868, we founded the "First Baptist Church" in Stanford, Ky. In March 1892, we founded "Logans Creek Mission", now "Blue Lick Baptist Church." After the decision to tear down the church sanctuary and build a larger one, On August 16, 1970, Stanford Baptist opened the new sanctuary, which is our sanctuary now.
We believe that Stanford Baptist is in a season of revival, and we are passionate about sharing the Gospel of Jesus. Though it seems so many are falling away from the Church, Stanford Baptist strives to be obedient and passionate about sharing God's Word. Since October 2022, SBC has seen a 70% increase in attendance, which one could only imagine is that SBC is one of the fastest-growing churches in this region.
